British art: artist William Selby

Our next art show is just one week away. It is a mixed art show featuring selected artists from the New English Art Club(NEAC). The NEAC is one of the leading British art societies with a number of well known artists.

Over the year Red Rag has promoted many art works by NEAC members. One of the most sought after has been William Selby. We are therefore delighted to be showing more paintings by Bill Selby.

Bill is a native of Yorkshire where he was born in 1933. He is very much a self taught artist. He has been painting professionally for many years and his contemporary paintings have been shown at several leading British art galleries.

Selby paints using oil, acrylic and mixed media. His paintings are stunning displaying bold colour. Bill develops his paintings by applying layer upon layer with painterly brushstrokes.

Other NEAC artists in the art show include Royal Academy artists Fred Cuming and Ken Howard plus David Cobley, Charles Hardaker and Andrew Macara.

The NEAC art exhibition starts 6 November. For further details email the gallery or

'Magican's Exit' by Charles MacQueen RSW RGI

The World Heritage City of Bath is the location for Red Rag’s new art gallery. The gallery is located between two historic and iconic landmarks – The Royal Crescent and The Circus. Against the background of classical Georgian architectural elegance Red Rag will be showing the best of today’s British and Irish artists

The new gallery will open with contemporary Scottish Art from one of the Scotland’s leading artists - Charles MacQueen.

Charles MacQueen was born in Glasgow in 1940. He was educated at St Aloysius College and then attended the Glasgow School of Art. After graduating from Glasgow School of Art in 1965, Charles MacQueen pursued a successful career in Art Education. Charles retired from teaching in 1990 to concentrate full time as a professional artist.

MacQueen is inspired by his regular visits to Tunisia and Morocco. The latest contemporary paintings at Red Rag Galley in Bath demonstrate Charles’s fascination with the two countries. Colour and surface texture are very important elements in his paintings.
